Digging out after a series of snow storms

Winter photos 2018-2019

Opportunities for taking photos in Winter are more limited; there’s less wildlife, lighting is harsh, and landscapes are typically drab. Of course, snow and ice transform everything, and it becomes well-worth the effort to get out in the early morning light, before other brave souls leave their footprints, and before the sun changes sparkling crystalline snow into mush. There is also the option of shooting from indoors, but I would warn you against spraying glass cleaner on a window in negative temperatures – I don’t think they put as much alcohol (antifreeze) in those cleaners as they used to.

Here’s a selection of recent winter photos taken in Joshuas Creek.
