Unabashed Geek
I’ve never been able to settle on a single lifetime interest, I’ve always liked to dabble in multiple technologies and try my hand at many things.
When I read that to have a successful blog, YouTube channel or web site, you have to pick a niche that you’re passionate about, I have a problem picking just one of my interests, Maybe my passion is being a generalist. But that isn’t a particularly cool title, so I picked geekiness as my niche.
When my kids first called me a geek, I wasn’t sure how to take it. Now I wear the title proudly. Unabashedly. There are a number of definitions for “geek”. I’m going to go with an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity or a person who is very interested in and knows a lot about a particular field or activity as the other definitions, like someone who bites the head off a chicken, or someone who is socially inept, just don’t describe me, Well, the chicken biting thing is definitely not me.
To me, a geek is someone who wants to know how things work, particularly when knowing how they work can help in making them work better. And if I’m not an expert in being a geek, I’m certainly an enthusiast.
So this website celebrates the good side of geekiness. I’m not going to limit the subject matter, because I don’t know which ones I’m going to find the urge to write about. However, I will separate the various forms of geekiness by using the categories (or “Post Groupings” as I’ve called them, for people who don’t “do” WordPress).
To give you a flavour of what you might expect, look for posts on Photography, Video production, workshop, woodworking, web development, WordPress, Windows, programming, home automation and doing things efficiently. And probably other things. This intro is not a contract!
I hope you will enjoy my efforts to help others see the world through the eyes of a geek. In fact not just a geek, but a Senior Geek. And if you are only interested in one aspect, like my photography, that’s fine, feel free to ignore the rest!
No chickens were harmed in the writing of this post.
Now click on something in the groupings list. Photography would be a pretty painless start.
